Interview, Bureaucracy and Moving to Turkey
UPDATED!
Hey guys!
Few weeks ago I've posted first post with the information about scholarships offered by the Republic of Turkey (bachelor, MA and PhD). I have seen that many of you have read my post and also many of you asked me some questions. Last week I updated the post
Study in Turkey which can be find
here. Also don't forget: all news and important dates are anounced on the official page of
Türkiye burslari (Turkey Scholarship), because some important dates or rules might change from year to year.
If you are readin this post now, you are probably waiting THE EMAIL that you were selected for an interview. I hope this post can give you some answers to your questions.
So before I will explain you about interview and other procedures, I would like to repeat and reply to some most frequent questions which I got from you. Firstly, the scholarship in the schope of
Turkiye burslari are government scholarships, not university scholarships, so if you are already enrolled in one of the Turkish universities, than check Tübitak scholarships. Those of you, who already filled in the application form already know, that application also has a question: in which university do you want to study and in which departement, which means, if you will win the scholarship, you will also win one of the universities and departaments on your application form. If you are ALREADY studying in Turkey on your own expense, than check the post
Study in Turkey about other scholarship opportunities.
When waiting for interview invitation, many students are panick stricken when they read or hear on Facebook, that some other candidates have already been invited on an interview. Well, since interview is conduccted in more than 100 countries world wide, it's not possible that all the interviews are held in the same period. Most of interviews, however are held between APRIL and JUNE (both included). The best way to know if the interviews for the successful candidates have finished is to call the Turkish Embassy in your country (and not to consult a Facebook :).

Other very frequent question was about Turkish language course. If you have sufficient knowledge of Turkish, which means level C1, you will be able to start university education after arriving to Turkey. If you do not have any certificate prooving your knowledge, than you will have test of Turkish language after your arrival. If your knowledge of Turkish is not sufficiente, than, during 2 semesters (or less), you will have to attend Turkish language course. You will need to learn Turkish even tought your university education language will not be Turkish.
INTERVIEW
After you have completed your application and after application period is close, probably everyone will wait for an interview invitation. Be patient. Invitation might come one or even 2 months after the application period has finished. It also varies from country to country. My interview was held at Turkish embassy in my country in second half of May, meanwhile some candidates from other countries got their already in April (this dates are for MA and PhD students; bachelor students interviews were in June). So be patient and reguraly check your email and your account on the page where you had applied for Scholarship. Not all students get invited to an interview, only the one who managed to get in second round of selections.
Please, read a special post, where I write more about interview and the questions they might ask you. You can read it
here.
SCHOLARSHIP RESULTS and BUREAUCRACY
The scholarship results are not anounced during interview, but later. In 2013 this was at the end of June (bachelor, MA and PhD). Only the selected candidates got email with the news, that they were accepted (and also some rejected students, but not all).
About one month after the application results we got another email regarding university and departement we won and also about the language of instructions. Most students will study in Turkish. After this, the bureaucracy really began :) We had to translate some documents to Turkish, namely passport, health report, diploma (or a paper which indicated that you have graduated) and academic transcript. We had about 10 days to do so and to bring all documents to Turkish Embassy in our country. At the embassy we had to sing our scholarship agreement and start student visa procedure.
In this period, many of us were facing some problems, because Turkish embassies in our countries didn't know that we won scholarship or our scholarship agreement was delivered to embassy with delay. Student visa procedure also depends from country to country: some citizens can get it in a day, meanwhile other wait for it a week or so. Here, again be patient and prepeare yourself that you will (probably) need to visit Turkish embassy a few times before you will arrange everything.
MOVING TO TURKEY
So, you have won the scholarship..Congratulations! But what to do next??
Firstly, don't panic! You will need to arrange lots of documents, which is not very pleasant job, but hey, everyone has managed to do it before you, so you can also do it!
By now, you have probably get used to waiting for emails from scholarship comitee. And thing will not change a lot after you won scholarship (but you must know, that there are many students - new and old, so comitee has lots of work).
So, read carefully the email the scholarship team sent you and check again the page of university/department you won. Read carefully email and check which documents you need to bring with you, when you'll sign scholarship agreement. Most of you will sign it at Turkish Embassy in your country, so you need all papers to be translated in English (or Turkish). I know in some countries there are no or very few Turkish translators, that is why some of you will need to translate their documents into Turkish in Turkey. This is very easy if you live in one of big cities, such as Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, etc.
Before going to Turkish embassy to sign agreement, check if your passport is still valid (it's good to be valid at least one more year), because they will give you single entry student visa and when you'll come to Tukey, you will need to ask for residence permit. When you are at Embassy you can also ask the staff questions regarding to visa or residence permit procedures, because your embassy should know it better than Scholarship comitte, since every country has different regulations. Generally (at least this is my experience), they won't know much about scholarship procedure, because it's changing frequently.
After you have singed your scholarship agreement, make some copies of it (you will need them and save original for you). Also I advice to you make several copies of all the documents you have shown to the embassy and also copies of your passport (page with photo and visa). Make an additional copy of passport page with visa after entering Turkey (you will need it, when you will ask for residence permit). Also bring with you (or take the first day in Turkey) at least 20 (or more) photos for documents. In Turkey almost every document procedure requires a photo of you. After all this, enjoy your last days at home, with your family or friends. Scholarship comitee will let you know all the missing information in about one month or so. Probably you are still waiting some info- especially the one regarded to your flight.
In 2013 first students left for Turkey around 18th September and last in the beginning of October. Our ticket have been sent to us only a week or 10 days in advance, so be ready. Scholarship team bought tickets for us, however some students had to buy their own connecting flight in case, if there was no Turkish Airlines flight to their country. In this case, their ticket was refunded (but few months later). After your arrival to Turkey at the biggest aiports (Istanbul and Ankara), scholarship team will wait for students. If you have some questions, you can ask them. I guess especially those of you, who will need to find their dormitories or travel by bus to other city, can get some useful information how to get there.
After you've arrived to dormitory, you will need to register. That is why it's important to have scholarship agreement, photos and other copies of documents allways with you on this first days. After this you have to register at university, language school (as most of you will probably learn Turkish in the first year). You will also have to apply for residence permit. This might take some time. Also register for it, after you already have your student certificate, because without it you cannot get student visa.
Before coming to Turkey also take enough money with you. You will probably get first scholarship about one month after your arrival to Turkey, so don't forget to bring enough money with you, since you will need it for travel expenses, food and also registration fees. Also residence permit is not for free. Take some more money in case you will need to translate your documents to Turkish in Turkey. It depends on how many documents you have, but translation will cost you at least 200 TL. Probably many of you will buy new phone in Turkey or bring your own phone from your country. If you decide to use foreign phone with Turkish SIM card, you need to register it, otherwise it will get blocked. The registration costs around 150TL.
This all might sound little scarry right now, but after all this is arrange, I believe that you will enjoy your experience in Turkey. Also I would like to mention that you will meet many foreign students and you can help each other during all this procedures. Also you can also contact with scholarship team.

are there any student's obligations about any kind of repayment (?) in case selected student wants to quit the whole scholarship thing?
Let's say that after the year of successfully completed Turkish course (or semester/year in university + or whatsoever, it's not about the time) I change my mind and decide to discontinue my studies in Turkey for altogether. So in that case, if you want to terminate (voluntary! without any failures) your Scholarship in any time, do you have to repay any allowance-grant-award to the TR government that has been made during that period (?)
thanks in advance for any kind of information.
take care
In my contrct (2013) was no such thing. There was only stated that if you do not achieve level C1 of Turkish, you will have additional year to do so, but during this time, you will not receive scholarship.
When we won scholarship they sent us link to contract, so you will have time to read it carefully.
I have some question
what does "admission state : In progress" mean ?
Does your visa include a work permit, or can a post-grad student apply for one ?
Do student dormitories have internet connection, if no, can a student get a DSL connection to it on his own expense?
thanks in advance , sorry asking so many question but applicant are left without any clue :)
I guess they are rewieving your application :) Student visa doesn't allow you to work, but 4 days ago there were some changes, you will be allowed to work in Turkey as a foreign student, however, when you will come you will get only student visa, if you find work, than employer needs to give you/arrange some papers for working visa.
Dormitories have internet connection (you need to pay extra for this) and also you can buy your own internet access.
On the Facebook page od Turkiye burslari, they today they published this:
To the Attention of 2014 Postgraduate Program Applicants.
''The evaluation process for Master and PhD degree applications has begun. Selected Students for interview will be informed country by country via e-mail.''
I don't know if this means, that they will follow alphabetical order or not, because it also depends on Turkish Embassy in your country. If you will not be invited to interview until the end of May, you can call Turkish Embassy in your country and asked them if they had interviews. Also, check the Facebook page of International Students Organization in Turkey, where many applicants are posting information related to selection process.
Good luck!
first i would like to thank for your information
my question is do you have any sample of interview questions and if you don't what would you think the interview question will be?
thanks
I don't have any sample of questions, but as I mentioned before, they asked me some questions, similar to those in application form: why would I like to study in Turkey? Why this university? How can this contribute to my career? And something like- how could this contribute to better relations between countries.
second : how much dollars should I get before travelling to turkey if i get the scholarship ?
third : If you know , can I edit my choices for the universities in my account after I Submitted my Request??
thank you
Depends on amount of scholarship you will get, but enough money to survive 1 month there (depends on your lifestyle) and extra expenses (visa, books, taxi). I guess not less than 200 $, because first scholarship will come 1 month after your arrival to Turkey.
You cannot edit choices, if the application period has already closed. In case that you are applying in this moment (for bachelors degree), than you can try to do it.
Firstly, do all successful applicants convene once you arrive in Turkey for briefing? Do you get to meet other beneficiaries?
This leads me to my second question, would you by any chance know the number of successful applicants per country, say, for 2013?
There was no such meeting, at least not in a bigger cities, but I've seen than in some cities municipalityor university organized meetings for foreign students.
Maybe this will change next year, because they announced that they will open Türkiye burslari offices at some universities.
I have no idea, how many students from which country, I just knew number of places for my country, becase I've seen one very old scholarship anouncement.
The reference letter is not obligatory, but it can help :)
Good luck!
I made a mistake in my application, instead of putting the enrollment year for the secondary school I put the year I entered my school which was two years before the secondary school, is it gonna reduce my chances ????
your help is appreciated .... thank you !
I cannot give you a correct answer for this since I am not part of the scholarship team. I hope it will not reduce your chances. Good luck!
Now...
My question is, do they first give you the scholarship then get you a University or do you get the university straight away and if the University comes later, are there chances you can fail to get a University even after getting the scholarship?
Well last year's experience was like this: at the end of June they just sent us results- who won scholarship. Just this.
Than in second half of July they sent us info about which university we won and the language of instructions at the given uni./programme. At that time we had to reply them if we'll accept scholarship or not. At the beginning of August they sent us information about which documents need to be brought to Turkish embassy in our country and also that at that time we will sign scholarship agreement and start visa process.
My questions are (if you can help) the main University I applied has his teaching language has English and I´ve been told if I was accepted I would have to present a Proficiency certificate of English and maybe other certificates (currently I don´t have it for monetary reasons).. the thing is I don´t know Turkish so I would have a year to learn it and possibly could I also do the proficiency test of English in Turkey? little tricky question I´m guessing... any help with it would be wonderfull!
Thank you very much :)
If you will be accepted, I think you can take English exam in Turkey, during the year you will learn Turkish.
Good luck!
First: about health certificate, Can I go any hospital to get it or I must go to the specific hospital?
Secondly: Where can I get the residence permit? Can you tell me what I need to avoid when I live in Turkey?
You can go to your doctor and ask them for certificate. I think it's good if they can write it in English.
For residence permit I can only help you, if you'll study in Istanbul. Anyway, you can do it, when you come to Turkey. Generally main police office in every city has departement for foreigners and they are responsible for residence permits.
Greetings
My name is Haseeb Ahmad Khan I have got Turkiye Burslari scholarship I have recieved admission in MS (EE) at Yildiaz technical university but the medium of instruction at YTU is Turkish and I dont know turkish.
Please guide me that wht they mean lectures will be in turkish and exam will also be in turkish plz guide me in this regards.
In scholarship email there is written that we have to study one year turkish course during this year we will study our department courses or not ???? or we will study turkish only
Wht is the total duration of this scholarship for MS students is it 2 years or 3 years ??????
If you don't know Turkish, in your first year you will only attend Turkish preparation school. After this, you will start university. So your scholarship duration is 1 year of Turkish + x years of your education. So, if MA studies are for 2 years, than it means 3 years togheter.
So, you don't need to worry, because you will start your MA education after you finish Turkish language preparation school.
Thank you! I don't know about reply. Does it say something in email you've received? Last year they've sent us special email with a link to a questionaire and we had to reply there.
Good luck in Turkey.
P.S.: you can support my blog by sharing it / voting for me in Big blog exchange. Thanks!
I will have few questions if it is ok for you First before I go to embassy,do I have to translate all document and bring them? Also health report what kind report they are looking? And I got Konya for city but to be honest I am scared a little bit because of dormitory and money.I know that dormitory are not perfect but do we have some common things inside of rooms? And I got 1100 TL scholarship,is that enough what do you think Thank you so much :)
About translation- call your embassy. I took all documents to embassy in English and I translated my documents to Turkish in Turkey.
Health report- unfortunately there is no example of health report. Last year they wanted a proove that ''we are able to study'' or something like that. So I went to my doctor and told her this. I've also showed her email that scholarship team had sent me and she wrote it for me.
Well about money, especially you need to worry only for 1. month in Turkey, because you will probably receive first scholarship at the end of October (generally we receive scholarship on 25th of the month). Otherwise 1100 tl is more than enough money if you live in dormitory. Also you will live in Konya, which is much cheaper than Istanbul, for example.
About domitory again depends. You will live in governmen dormitory, so depends how old/new it is. Probably there will be at least 3 girls in room (or more, but I guess not more than 5). Some dormitories have bathroom in room, other have shared bathroom. Also in some there is TV and fridge in room.
In every dorm there are shared facilities like canteen, where you can eat breakfast and dinner. Also some have garden and TV/computer room and laundry. You need to pay extra for laundry and WIFI.
Thank you for the useful information you provided!
I got acceptance email. Was wondering if you can travel visit your country while you are studying there on your expense. Can you do that? And for how many days?
Also, during summer, do they continue providing you with the dormitory and monthy stipend. What do you do when not studying in summer?
Thank you in advance for your response. Regards
You will still receive scholarship during summer, as well as there will be provided dormitory.
Of course you can go home during school year, but for how long it depends on when do you want to go home. If there are some holidays or school break or semester you can go home even for a month. Otherwise for shorter time and you must speak about this with your teacher/scholarship team.
During summer you can travel :) Also if you will not finish your Turkish course, you will continue it during summer.
Thank you so much for your advice. I managed to get my health report after reading your replies on this blog.
On the scholarship agreement, a declarant and representative need to sign on behalf of the student. Who is this representative? Can anyone sign or it has to be a former professor/referee?
You need this signature only if you are under 18 years old. In this case, your parents must sign it, or if you don't have parents, legal guardian.
Thank you for the prompt reply. I'll take my documents tomorrow.
Firstly, thank youuuu soo much for this information :))
Secondly, i would like to ask you some questions...I have won the schoolarship in Istanbul (Istanbul University) for radio tv and cinema...I am going to take the Turkish language course because i don't speak Turkish. Will it be very difficult for me to learn it???(i will do my best) I am very scared :// Another question is about the dormitories....do you have any extra information about the dormitories in Istanbul??will they be good enough to live?? and about the wifi or let's say internet connection...will it be provided there...or i have to set it by my self?? In case i want to communicate with my family and friends.. :/ and do they require a language certificate(for example English)? also are there enough money(550TL monthly) to live is Istanbul after the first month??
Thank You :))
I think it's very difficult or almost impossible to change the departament. Maybe you can change them later, I think now can be impossible. Maybe try to call to Scholarship comitee or write them.
Good luck!
Firstly congratulations for winning scholarship. I'm glad to hear that information provided here helped you.
Don't be affraid about Turkish classes- you will have them 4-5 days a week and also you will live in Turkey, so it will be easier than it would be, if you lived somewhere else. Also if you will not learn enough until June next year, you can also take summer courses.
Dormitories- well depends. Some are really good, some not that much. If you will not be satisfied, you can try to change them- it is possible, just you must wait in the waiting list. Also dormitories have wifi- but you need to pay extra for it.
I think 550tl are enough- if you don't shop to much, or travel too much :) Also you will get some extra ''money'' which you can spend in dormitory canteen for breakfast/dinner.
See you in Istanbul :)
My question is about the Agreement form. Please what im i suppose to write for the correspondence address?? and are two parents suppose to fill the last part ?? ( mean the place where it is written declarants and representative on behalf of student and the part where it is written declarant and representative??) what are they expecting from there?
Correspondence address should be- at least it would be good- where you or your parents live.
You need to fill in the last part only if you are under 18 yrs old. If you are and don't know what to write, check few comments above you.
my question is about the legalization of our documents translated into turkish ; is it obligatory ? where we can do that ? should we do that in our country before get moved to turkey ?
Thank you so much!
Well, if you will translate your documents to Turkish in your home country- than call the embassy and they will give you contacts of translators. After this, the embassy will also give stamp on documents. (you need to pay extra for this).
If your embassy will accept papers in English, you can translate papers in Turkey. In this case you can go to ''normal'' translator and no need to go to embassy.
thank you :))
Do you mean curfew ( until what time you can enter dormitory)? Yes, there is. I think it was 11 pm and midnight in summer. I heard also that sometimes rules are more flexible for male students.
As I wrote a few comments up- your parents or legal guardians need to fill this in, BUT only IN CASE IF you are under 18.
Were you charged any fee when applying for the visa? I'm being told I have to pay $60. This thing is turning out to be very costly.
I have also opted to translate my documents when I get there since it's too costly to do it here (stamping of the documents after the translation is more expensive). Will I need to translate my documents to Turkish as soon as I land? Embassy told me I will have to do it before I register for University. That is a year away since I have to do the Turkish language course for a year or how does it happen?
How many passport pictures were you asked to submit when applying for the visa?
I got my single entrance student visa for free- but also residence of my country genreally don't need any visa for Turkey, I guess that is why I got also this one for free.
I've also translated my documents in Turkey. And yes, you will need to translate them before registering to university (but to register to language school you will not need it). It was fast- I got them back few hours later- but also I just had 4 papers at that time.
You will need to resgister to University this year and than your registration will be frozen until you'll pass Turkish exam.
About applying for residence permit- I've just published post, anyway you will need 4 photos. You can read this new post here:
http://istanbulkonstantinopel.blogspot.com.tr/2014/08/study-in-turkey-3-how-to-get-student.html
Unfortunately sometimes it can be difficult, because not everyone speaks English (even the university workers). But don't worry, so far everyone has done it! And also at that time, there will be many people and other students at the university, so they can help you. Also you will meet many foreign students in dormitory.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend you andy doctor or hospital. Maybe your doctor from hometown can write you a medical report and send it to you??
For translations, I went to one translation office close to Istanbul university. There are many translation offices. If you are already in Turkey you can ask for the prices.
I guess you will have time to take this exams in the following year, while studying Turkish. Anyway, it's strange that you didn't know that. If you were able to sign the agreement, than I guess you will really be able to take this exams in the following year. I advice you to take them as soon as possible and/or ask at the university where can you take them. Maybe university also organizes sem GRE or English exams.
1. We have been asked to translate our documents from English into Turkish and have them approved together with two copies of the acceptance letter sent into our mail by the Turkish Embassy. In my country, the only Agency responsible for doing this is out of service currently. So I would like to ask whether you think I can bring those documents into Turkey for translation or it is compulsory for me to do it in my home country since it is asking for the approval of the Turkish Embassy? Also, was it the same instructions last year? I'm really so confused.
2. The second question is that, is there a special standard Health report that is accepted by Turkish Universities? Even though I signed the agreement with the Health report issued by my Doctor, one of my friends was of the opinion that it was substandard. Again, will our universities conduct Medical tests for all of we fresh students on arrival?
Thanks so much and hope I'll have a response soon.
1. Last year we had some instructions, but I've also translated my documents in Turkey. If your embassy will accept English documents, than no problem. Contact them.
2. I guess there is no standard health report (only for Medicine students), otherwise they would send one to us. Anyway, last year I only had to show my health report when signing agreement, after this no one even checked it.
Also, I am a Medical student. So, does that mean we may have a special Health report form or may go through a separate Medical Test?
Once again, thanks and hoping for a quicker response.
Finally, I managed to take all the required documents in order for my visa to be processed. Thank you for you help.
I was wondering how long it will take for me to get the official letter from the University confirming that I've been admitted there as well as more information from the TOMER center.
The scholarship offer letter did not give a specific date. How long after signing the scholarship agreement did you wait for that letter from the University and TOMER center?
Looking forward to your response.
If I recall it correctly we got documents in September...actually not really something like document but only information about Turkish language center (which is not Tömer anymore). Also we didn't get paper from university that we are accepted, only an document from scholarship team that we were granted scholarship and for which university and programme.
Please I want to understand the procedure of ticket reservation and ticket delivery pertaining to what happened in 2013:
1. How was the ticket reservation done?
2. After you have reserved your ticket on a particular day, is the ticket going to be sent to your electronic mail with details, or is it going to be sent to your Embassy for delivery?
Thanks!
1. Don't buy your own ticket...at least not for now. They will reserve it for you and send you an email with the dates. You will need to confirm it and than they will send you electronic ticket (via email). So, you won't go to embassy anymore, just to the aiport :)
Hi,
Sorry for sending you my message here, I had no idea how to send you an email via your blog.
First of all I want to thank you for all the information that you've provided for Turkey Scholarship, you are a life saver, I was lost until I found your posts
I will be studying in Istanbul (Masters' level) as well, and I still have some questions
.
1. I'm guessing we will open a bank account when we arrive in Istanbul, so is there any Bank that you recommend?? and do I need some specific documents to open an account?
2. About dormitories, will I be placed in University dorm or in one nearest to the University, or is it going to be the nearest dorm to my Turkish language center??
I'm really afraid of state-run dorms, are they any good, or are there many people in one room??.
are private dormitories very expensive, and do you know of any??
I think that's about it, I hope you get this Message, Thank you again for all you help.
I'll go now to read the rest of your Posts.
1. No need to open bank account. Scholarship team will open it for you and you will need to go to bank only to sign the papers and bring your passport and later to pick up your bank card.
2. No, you will be placed in one of the state run dormitories. Some are quite far from the university...but in Istanbul everything is far. Some state run dorms are quite new and nice, with bathroom, tv, etc in room. Some have shared batrooms. It actually depends on your luck. You can still change dorm, if you won't like it, but you'll be on the waiting list. There are 3 or more ppl in room.
I don't know the exact prices of private dorms, but also there you will not be alone in room and probably they are too expensive for you MA scholarship.
Thanks and I expect a response soon.
1. Which airline tickets turkey Burslari will be providing us?
2. Which class?
3. How many bags we are allowed to bring with us? any weight restrictions?
Thanks for relevant and helpful infos shared here.
My documents approved at the embassy are in french. Can I translate them to turkish once I get there ?
Thanks !

My documents approved at the embassy are in french. Can I translate them to turkish once I get there ?
Thanks !
Thank you so much for this blog
Please can I bring along a Laptop for my Program in Turkey or will the Turkish Scholarship Team give me one
I, finally, got my visa. Thank you so much for the advice.
I understand we have to register our phones once we get there. How much does it cost to register my phone? From your experience, is it cheaper to buy a phone there then register it or come with a phone from home and register it there?
Are we allowed to register our phones without the residence permit? What are the requirements for registering a phone there?
My visa is for 3 years instead of 4 years (1 year Turkish language + 3 years PhD). Did you have the same issue? Is there a way I can extend it form there?
How much does a used laptop cost in Ankara (Turkey)? Because I am considering buying my computer in Ankara when I arrive.
Great to hear that! You will need to register your phone in case you have turkish sim card but foreign phone. Registration costs about 150 tl (or even more). I guess if you'll buy smart phone, price of new phone can be higher. but still, if you register an old foreign phone it also takes some time and travelling around the city. You need to buy sim card somewhere and than go to pay tax for registration to tax office. I'm not sure if you can do it without residence permit because some rules changed since I did it. Ask it before buying sim card.
1.Are there any exam such as ALES or any other specific exam I have to pass before starting my MA?
2.Is the register process complex?
I am really concern about the first question because, in some government scholarship, after getting the language certificate, students need to pass the entrance example before starting their degree.
Thank in advance for your response.
Thank you! I didn't have any extra ALES or language exam. This depends on departament, however when you were applying this extra exams were written next to every departement you've chosen.
If you will need to take those exams, than you'll probably have 1 year time (int case that this first year you will learn Turkish).
Registration process is simple - if you have all documents (in Turkish), but because of many students get ready for waiting and patience...especially when registering at Turkish language course.
Thank you :)
Please can you emphatically assure me that on the average a master student is able to learn the Turkish language in the period given and study his course fluently in Turkish. Please I need your response... Because my course is in Turkish and I am thinking on this...
Don't worry. It is possible. But you must attend classes and study...also speak Turkish with your friends :)
Thank you :))
I guess your flight is not on September 7th ;) Did you confirm that you are able to fly on that day? (we had to do so). If yes, wait 1 more day...you can also check if your ticket has been bought on page of Turkish airlines (for this you need your first and last name and electronic ticket nr. I think nothing more).
I find your article quite interesting and helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I am very interested in applying to the Turkiye Burslari next year but I still have many questions!!!
The first thing I want to know is whether the scholarships are free or not. I mean, completely free (Not taking into account the money we should take with us for the bureucracy process). They will pay for everything? university, transportation? etc.
My second question is related to learning turkish... Is it 1 year enough for being proficient at turkish?????
Thanks so much in advanced
I will really appreciate your response :)
Thank you. About what scholarship covers and what it does not cover, please check the oficial page (turkiye burslari).
About language- 1 year may be enough for you to be able to communicate, write and follow the classes at the uni. Of course you cannot expect that you will be like native speaker after 1 year. You will continue learning also after that.
Firstly congratulations because you were invited to interview. This year a record number of students applied, so also this is a success! Second of all, I wouldn't worry about this. Maybe they were just bored of asking always the same. They also asked me some other questions, not just the usual one.
Anyway, the results are not published right after the interview but later, because your embassy must inform Turkiye Burslari about all the interviewees...and all the countries must do so. The results will probably be known at the end of June. So just be patient and don't think so much about it. You've done everything you could.
Today I’ve received the mail with the interview date and i’m so nervous. All the interviews are in English?? My English is realy bad, I don’t have confidence to talk to the interviewers :'(
Greetongs from Colombia ^^
Gracias! Pues sí, normalmente entrevistan en inglés, pero depende del país, si los trabajadores en la embajada sepan la lengua del país, pueden conducir la entrevista en tu lengua. Sé que en algunos paises tiene entrevistas en árabe...
Unfortunately I cannot give you an specific information, since the selection criteria is different depending on country and the number of applicants. I guess it's always important that you know why you want to study something and why exactly in Turkey.
Please let me know, and thanks in advance
But, now i'm really worried about the university they will place me in because while applying i didnt know that we have to put the university choices in order of priority...
I want to get Haceteppe but it is number 4 on my list..
Is there a possibility that i get it?
What are the criterias for placing students in universities, are they academic based and will they then naturally choose Haceteppe because of my good results?
Thanks.
When you'll apply for the single entrance student visa, you will need some of the documents you've needed for applying for scholarship. You will get email about that before signing the scholarship agreement.
When applying for student's residence permit, you will need a student certificate (from the university in Turkey) and some other papers. Please check my post Study in Turkey #3. I need to update it again, but I think you'll still need the same documents.
I'm not sure about this one, but I've heard that usually you get the best choice. However some universities don't open places for foreign students every year or there are some limits, so it also depends on what other students have chosen.
Now I've got a scholarship already and I've just gotten the confirmation about University
but I would like to ask you some information, I got the International Business of Istanbul University
In the past, when I registered in the application form which I chose 12 university, some faculty and university
required the TOEFL, ALES , GMAT and GRE and any faculty not required its. In the application form, I did not attach
TOEFL ALES, GMAT and GRE but I got the International Business in Istanbul university which required its,
I wonder when I go to turkey I have to submitted the certificated score?
if I don’t have its, could I study in the scholarship ?
Thank you so much for your kind
I've got the scholarship but I have some question:
What is the acceptance letter, the first one without any information but the fact that we've been granted a scholarship or the second one with the university placement? And will I have to get the embassy certify it?
Then, should I print my own scholarship agreement or the embassy already have it?
Thanks in advance.
P.-S.: I've already called the embassy but they told me that they don't have no information about the scholarship
Thank you
If you already have your certificate, than bring it with you. In other case you will have to take the exam before starting university education. Anyway, you'll probably start 1 year later, unless you are fluent in Turkish.
The second one, where the university placement in written on it. But print both documents before you go to embassy just in case. Also I would advice you to take more copies of it with you to Turkey.
I think embassy will give you the agreement.
No, doesn't need to. Actually the photo in the passport needs to be done according to the rules of each country.
Thanks in advance
Now I have been getting the scholarship and also got the questionnaire from turkey scholarship that has been required to do, I can fill all of the question but i can not send it, when i click send, the pages said " invalid email in our system. please check your e-mail Sistemde e-posta bulunamadi " in fact, i fill the right e-mail that link with the turkey scholarship. How can i do if i can not send it. It is effect on something ?
PS. the questionnaire is about flight, accommodation, turkish language course
Thank you in advance !
Yes, you must fill in the questionnaire. If your email is correct, than contact the tecnical support and they will check what is wrong.
You must send this info to them, so they will know, from where they need to book your flight tickets, etc.
The acceptance letter said that all documents need to be approved by the embassy. What does that mean? Should they put their stamps on them or what? Because they already checked my documents but did nothing to them.
Thanks in advance!
Embassy just checks your documents, no stamps. When you'll register at university in Turkey, they will check the documents again and probably you will need to translate them to Turkish.
Thanks
Have you already received the email with the name of your dorm and adress?
Not yet, is it a specific mail about only the dorm?
I studied at the language center which belongs to the Istanbul University. They have 3 or 4 centers. Some teachers were really good. Yes, I have all my classes in Turkish. It's difficult at the beginning, but than you learn a lot.
what are u majoring in? are u an undergraduate
Other option is that you change the date on your ticket by calling the airline offfice. Usually you have to pay just a small amount and if the ticket is only reserved, not purchased yet, you will not pay nothing. You'll wait for refund a long time and if you've changed your mind without telling the scholarship team, you will never get a refund.
Are you flying to Istanbul or Ankara? If yes, don't worry because there will be a helpdesk. If you'll be in Istanbul later, they will probably send you email with dormitory's address. Good luck!
Will they tell me when I reach the airport ??
This is really bad. When you come to the airport, search for the Turkiye scholarship team and ask them. They should help you. But just in case save the phone number so you'll be able to contact them, if you don't find them.
First of all, I would like to thank you for this post, it is being helpful, as also your replies to other questions. If you may help me, I have some questions as well. I am willing to apply for this scholarship next year for the undergraduate level. And I am wondering if I can apply for equivalence of the courses that I have already taken at my current university. I also would like to know about the English proficiency exams accepted by this scholarship program: would it be preferred IELTS or TOEFL? And also (I apologize for the numerous questions) I would like to know if you have any idea about the chances of being placed in universities in big cities as Istanbul for undergraduate students.
My best regards,
Alberto
Thank you! As far as I know, if you win the scholarship you'll have to start from the very beginning: firstly one year of the intensive Turkish lessons and than university. I think that when applying for scholarship, they will not check for any equivalence, but if this is possible later on, when you start your university education I cannot tell you. I think it depends on university and teachers.
I think that Turkish universities accepts both IELTS and TOEFL. If you have any particular university in mind, than check their web page. Most likely your classes will be in Turkish anyway.
I guess most of the students want to be placed in the big cities, however not all of them can really study there. I don't know the % of students which get accepted in the big cities. I guess the % differs every year. When applying for scholarship you'll have to make a list of universities and you'll have to choose also smaller cities. But anyway, there are also good universities in smaller cities, close to the big cities (like Kocaeli, Eskişehir, etc).
If you have a particular university or programme in mind, than I advice you to take a look at the TÜBITAK scholarship scheme.
Good luck!
If I were you I would go to university as soon as possible and register. I didn't need the denklik document.
I have a question. I know that on the application form there is letter of intent. Will I have to write it in English or in my native language?. Thanks in advance.
1. I study foreign languages philology, main language being Arabic. I was very interested in Area Studies - Middle Eastern Studies (I saw this program under "popular programs" on their site, I am aware that the programs offered do vary and they may not be available every year). However, I have learned that, although having studied Arab civilization and language courses, I might not be able to apply because one coming from the area of philology cannot go to something like area studies, since it's more related to the politics area. However, I think this kind of MA is a perfect continuation for my language and cultural background. These being said, since the application program is very rigid, do you think there is any chance I could apply for Middle Eastern area studies? I do realize it's a rather particular question, so I apologize if it troubles you.
2. Do you have any knowledge of whether there are MA programs for Arabic philology (not religious studies, just culture and language)?
3. Do you happen to know what their policy is for students working online, freelance, from their computer? Because I'd like to earn some income from working from my computer while I'm there, and I know they are generally opposed to students working.
Thank you very much!
Unfortunately I'm affraid that I cannot reply to your question. As far as I know, all programmes open every year, however not all have a free place for international students. Since, I believe, that you programme is not thought only at one single university, I still believe that you'll be able to apply.
There exists Arabic philology as well.
I think (not 100%) that you can work, but not in Turkey. If you want to wark in Turkey, than you'll need special work permit. If you want to continue working online from Turkey, you should find a good internet provider, because sometimes we have problems with internet. ;)
Are these tests necessary to obtain the undergraduate scholarship and to stay in a good University of high rank?. I am really concerned.
Thanks.
If your education will be in English, or even partly in ENglish, you'll need and English certificate. Sometimes it doesn't depend on university but on programme.
When you'll apply for scholarship, you'll see all these information. As you'll most probably only study Turkish in the first year, you don't need to worry so much about this right now.
I had bachelor degree in computer science & i want ask if i could apply for MS program in computer computer graphics
i don't have degree in art but i have excellent knowledge in editing programs such as photoshop ,coreldraw, ulead family etc,
please i need ur answer as soon as possible
I think you can apply. If needed, you will only have to take an extra year of a ''preparation'' at university.
i have a few questions:-
1. does the scholarship consider the religious belief of an applicant?
2. i have finished my ordinary diploma studies in engineering and i want to take my bachelor in engineering in turkey, out of 100% i got 76% in my final results, what are my chances?
3. i have not yet received my diploma certificate,i only have my transcript, does that mean i cant apply?
hope to be answered soon.
Thank you! You are most welcome to share it.
1. What do you mean by that? That certain students cannot apply or something?
2. 75% is minimum for applying, your chances depend on other students, who will apply from your country and also on your motivation letter, etc.
3. You can apply, you will need your original diploma later.
The part for the ''motivation letter'' was somewhere at the end, if I remember corrctly. I think in the same part as questions - why would you like to study in Turkey. Actually it's only a question, not really a letter :)
First, thank you so much for posting all of these questions and answers, which have been very helpful!
I'm currently applying to the Turkiye Scholarships for the "Institute of Science and Technology" Masters Program. My question is if I can still apply even though I have not taken GRE/GMAT exams? In the dropdown where you get to select your 12 programs/universities, some programs state minimum scores required, others do not.
Can I still apply to those programs that state score requirement for GRE/GMAT even though I have not yet taken the exam?
Thanks in advance!
But pls write a article that will give us tips to the various answers to the interview pls .
Also try and create a group for watapps

Thank you! Unfortunately I cannot write such article, because this depends on country. To some countries Turkiye burslari team comes and interviews future students, meanwhile elswhere, the interview is conducted by the embassy staff. If you have any experience with interview, I would be happy if you can share it here and on base of that, I can write another post.
Thank you!
You can still apply. If you will be chosen to study at university, which requires such exam, you can take exam before starting the university. Most probably, you will attend an intensice Turkish language course when you arrive in Turkey, so it means that you have 1 year to pass the exam.
I've seen an old post and yes, they had some quotas, but I am not sure, where can you get this information. Maybe by asking your embassy. I think this kind of reference is helpful, but you also need to hava a minimum requirements (average grade, etc).
